MY JOURNEY TO A CLEAR SKIN

Having a perfect skin has always felt like a goldmine to me, I have struggled with acne for most of my adult life, I have longed for that glowing, radiant, luminous skin for what seem like eternity. Not only do I suffer from acne, I also have had a fair share of hyperpigmentation and skin discolouration. So, you can see I have been at a constant battle to have a clear and healthy looking skin for the most of my adult life. My dream is to have a skin that requires zero foundation to look amazing but I am at a place where I feel that is almost impossible to achieve. Having had a fair share of “tried and tested” of the numerous tropical skincare solutions, and with millions of them produced daily, knowing the right one for my skin became really overwhelming.

I am currently experiencing a lot of breakouts (reason for this post) which lead me to do an intense research about possible solutions to my skin problems. Most of the information I gathered are things I already know and general information associated with having a glowing clear skin.

To find a lasting solution to my everlasting problem, I am changing and incorporating a few things to my lifestyle with the hope that I find a permanent solution.

Here are three basic steps out of tons I read about. I have taken this year (2017) to clear up my skin and achieve a healthy-looking skin. I will give an update after 3 months of trying these steps.

Eating for beauty

I read somewhere that when it comes to a beautiful skin, “what you put in your mouth is as important as all the products you put on your skin” Not that I didn’t know this fact or that what I put in my body reflects the appearance on the outside, but the problem was I knew all this information but I never practiced any of them. Even though I wanted to have a clear skin so bad, I never bothered to discipline myself in terms of what I eat. I have researched and found out that my journey to a gorgeous skin has a lot to do with my diet. Hormonal imbalance causes acne which seem to be the problem I am facing because of my unbalanced lifestyle.

Some of the foods recommended for “good looking skin” are foods that I am very familiar with and I ate as often as I could but it is one thing to eat healthy food and it is another to eat it right.

Feeding my skin, the vital nutrients is my ultimate goal, eating food with powerful antioxidants is my main focus to protect my skin from free radicals that causes cellulite. . Vitamin E is known to be rich as an antioxidant that helps to protect skin cells from UV light and other environmental factors that generate cell-damaging free radicals,” explains Jeffrey Dover, M.D., associate clinical professor of dermatology at Yale University.

Drink lots of water

You probably have heard this like a million times, so have I, but I have never underestimate the power of water when it comes to a healthy-looking skin. Drinking water keeps the skin hydrated—and staying hydrated makes it appear plumper and less wrinkled, even though I have always loved drinking water, my plan is to increase my water intake, I am currently at drinking 2 liters of water a day, I plan on drinking 3 liters and probably go up to 1 gallon a day (Thanks Gabrielle Union for the inspiration) this shouldn’t be a challenge for me.

Exercise/ Working out

I have always associated exercising as the process to losing weight. I stumbled on a lot of articles that wrote intensely about the importance of exercising for a better-looking skin, I started picking interest and I did more research to find out how it could help me but I have a feeling this part of the skin care journey will be the ultimate challenge, as exercising isn’t my favourite thing to do.

I have challenged myself to walk 2 miles a day for start and I will be engaging myself in some home fun exercise videos which is easy to follow.

Sweating while exercising is great at opening the pores which in return expels trapped dirt and oil in the skin. Not only does sweating benefits the skin, it also helps the skin-significant hormones and prevents free- radical damage.

These three steps are the most important of all the advice I have read on having an acne free glowing skin, I am starting this journey with so much determination I will get the results I am aiming for. Changing my lifestyle has become mandatory. I will be cutting out a lot of things I eat that affects my skin.

I will post a follow up journey with my diet plan, my skin care routine, exercise routine and possibly before and after pictures.
